Individual Therapy For You

People seek professional help for a variety of reasons including treatment for anxiety, depression, and other life stressors.  At Anxiety Therapy LA we specialize in using evidence-based treatment for OCD, anxiety, and other OC Related disorders.  Treatment modalities may include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Habit Reversal Training (HRT),  and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) refers to specific methods and techniques that change the maladaptive or distorted ideas and beliefs an individual holds, as well as the behaviors prevalent in anxiety and mood disorders.  The basic idea of CBT is that how we think, act, and feel all interact with and influence one another.  With help from the therapists at Anxiety Therapy LA, clients will learn to identify the maladaptive or negative thoughts and beliefs replacing them with more realistic thoughts, in turn affecting the dysfunctional behaviors through exposure, response prevention and other behavioral techniques.  Through exercises, the client will learn effective self-help techniques which will be available to use in real-life situations.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is usually a short-term, goal-directed therapy.  Weekly individual therapy sessions last approximately 50 minutes and are conducted in the office or via teletherapy.  However, the length of treatment and number of sessions may vary from individual to individual.  Exposures in the home or elsewhere in the community may be warranted depending on the needs of each individual client.  Regular attendance is strongly recommended for maximum effectiveness.  Together we will build a therapeutic plan that caters to you.

Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) is a type of behavioral therapy used to treat OCD and other anxiety disorders.  Individuals are exposed to their feared stimuli while refraining from engaging in their typical compulsive behaviors.

Habit Reversal Training (HRT) is a type of treatment used to treat a variety of body-focused repetitive behaviors (BFRBs), motor tics and vocal tics.  HRT is made up of 3 components – awareness training, competing response training (learning an opposite action), and social support.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is an intervention that uses acceptance and mindfulness strategies to increase psychological flexibility.  ACT focuses on being present with what is going on in our lives, embracing it and to teaches us how to move toward valued behavior.
